High blood pressure is a serious condition, affecting 1 in 3 adults. It is known as the silent killer because people only know they have it when they experience a heart attack or stroke. There are many causes of high blood pressure including: poor diet/high salt intake, alcohol, family history, obesity, smoking, but also stress. Research carried out by Kotruchin et al, published in 2021, shows that many patients do not systematically follow a clinical treatment plan, but reflexology was also shown to help lower blood pressure. Reflexology is fantastic at relaxing all muscle tension in the body (often caused by stress), improves blood and lymph circulation throughout the body, and regulates mood and anxiety. By stimulating specific reflex points including the pituitary, adrenal, pineal, thymus, thyroid and parathyroid glands, messages are sent from the peripheral nerves to the central nervous system to lower bodily tension. This, in turn, creates an overall sense of relaxation and well-being, improves the levels of oxygen and nutrients reaching all of the organs in the body, and improves removal of waste products. This helps to balance the body and function at its best. I have often shown clients who have high blood pressure, how their blood pressure lowers after a treatment. Many clients have their own machine to check their blood pressure at home. By bringing it with them, we can compare blood pressure before and after a reflexology session. You will be amazed at the difference. Frequently, depending on whatever else is going on in their lives, this benefit can last 2-3 days initially.
