Colic is diagnosed when a healthy baby cries, for no apparent reason, for more than 3 hours a day, at least 3 days a week, and for more than 3 weeks. Are you finding this experience stressful, upsetting, and/or distressing? There are many symptoms although the most common include: crying for no apparent reason, pulling up their legs, turning bright red when crying, and usually crying in the afternoon or early evening for a prolonged amount of time. Whilst the exact cause is not known, digestive problems such as indigestion or not fully developed, sensitivity to breast milk or formula, emotional reaction, over or under feeding. Reflexology is a non-invasive technique where gentle pressure is applied to the feet which correspond to organs and glands in the body. This helps to reduce pain, regulate the digestive system, encourage sleep, boost immunity, and generally calm baby. As a nurse with previous neonatal experience, I understand how challenging it can be coping with colic.
