Constipation is when you find it difficult to poo or you are opening your bowels less than 3 times a week. Whilst this can be improved through diet and increased fluid intake, other factors can still affect your bowel movement. Children and the elderly are particularly prone to this, but you may have had bowel surgery, cancer treatment, irritable bowel syndrome, medication, or mobility difficulties which can all affect how well the bowel moves the waste products through your gut. Research carried out in 2020, by Inkaya and Tuzer, shows that reflexology significantly improves constipation in the elderly. Other research in 2003 showed that children who were prone to constipation, had improved symptoms with 6x 30 minute sessions of reflexology. As a nurse of over 25 years, I can honestly say that I am very comfortable talking about bowels . I do understand that this is a subject that you may find embarrassing or uncomfortable to talk about. I provide a very safe and confidential environment, with no embarrassment.
