21/9/2021 0 Comments CroupAs we head into the Autumn, respiratory illnesses become more prevalent. Croup in babies and young children is particularly common, but is very distressing for children and parents alike.
Croup causes swelling in the voice box and windpipe which makes breathing difficult and noisy. It is most common in children between the ages of 3 months to 5 years. The majority of croup infections are caused by a virus. Symptoms start out like a cold but turns into a “barking” cough, and often their voice sounds very hoarse with noisy breathing. Symptoms are often worse at night when mucus can build up. Reflexology helps to relieve the stress and tension experienced when feeling unwell, and relax the airways. Reflexology also helps to boost immunity to reduce the effects and frequency of future infections. I have a nursing background which includes neonatal nursing.
