Our physical and mental health are closely linked, and greatly affected by our emotions. When we experience stress, our autonomic nervous system is stimulated, causing our blood pressure and heart rate to increase, and adrenaline and corticosterone are released. Depression affects the whole body, becoming more susceptible to illness, and affects the person’s way of thinking. Mood and motivation are low. Reflexology is all about balancing all the systems and chemicals in the body to allow it to function as efficiently as possible. Although reflexology cannot stop external stressors, it can help the body to deal with them. By stimulating specific points (reflexes) on the feet or hands, build-up of toxins are eliminated, blood flow to organs is increased, hormones are balanced, encourages relaxation, and releases endorphins which are the body’s feel-good hormones. I have had some good results for clients experiencing varying levels of depression. One client, in particular, was coming off one medication to start a different one (having been on medication for well over a decade), and we managed to keep him off medication for 3 months! Don’t delay, start your complementary therapy journey with reflexology now!
