13/7/2021 0 Comments EpilepsyEpilepsy occurs when there is a sudden burst of electrical activity in the brain causing a seizure.
There are predominantly two types of seizure: generalised (affecting the whole brain) and focal (affecting one part of the brain). Symptoms can range from a secondary absence (going blank) to seizures affecting the whole body and causing loss of consciousness. It is a condition affecting approximately 65 million people around the world. It is managed by medication, but a study in 2013 by Krishna Dalal et al showed that reflexology reduced the frequency of seizures. Reflexology will never replace medication, but it does help to create relaxation and lower the levels of stress which can trigger seizures. Epilepsy is a chronic condition and would require a number of treatments. Each treatment lasts approximately an hour. I am a nurse by background so am able to look after you in the event you have a seizure during your treatment.
