The theory of reflexology is that the organs, glands, nerves, joints and other systems in the body are connected to reflex areas and points on the feet and hands. Stimulating these areas creates a response in that related body area. As a reflexologist, I work the whole body on the feet or hands to create a balance of energy in the body, but particular attention is paid to the area relating to the head and brain. In a piece of research carried out in Denmark in 1995, 220 people with headaches were treated by 78 different reflexologist over a 3 month period. The results showed that 16% were cured, 65% said there was a noticeable improvement, with 18% saying there was no change. The best part about reflexology is that it does not interfere with medication you may be taking, but does complement it. There are no side effects and you get an hour of complete relaxation. Prior to treatment I will take a full medical history from you, including symptoms and any pattern or triggers for the headaches, such as menstrual cycle, certain foods or tension/stress, which can also be addressed during the treatments. It can be useful to keep a diary.
