How are essential oils used?

Aromatherapy uses essential oils generally through inhalation and massage.
Essential oils may be added to creams, water, diffuser, burners in order to stimulate the olfactory nerves in the nose. These connect to the limbic system in the brain, associated with feelings and emotions.
To administer the essential oils through massage, it is necessary to use a carrier oil. This allows the therapist’s hands to glide sufficiently over the skin.
Massage involves warming up the skin to bring the small blood vessels to the surface, allowing the essential oils to be absorbed and transported around the body to be used as required.
It is an incredibly relaxing form of massage.
