18/8/2021 0 Comments LupusLupus is a chronic autoimmune condition causing inflammation in the body. It can attack one particular organ (localised) or it can attack many parts of the body (systemic).
The symptoms of lupus really depend on what part or parts of the body are being attacked. Most common parts of the body are: joints, heart, skin, lungs, kidneys and brain. Symptoms include: fever, rash, fatigue, joint pain, generalised aching, shortness of breath, dry eyes, memory loss and confusion. The symptoms may be persistent, flare up from time to time, or even disappear suddenly. The exact cause of lupus is unknown but environmental factors (smoking, stress, toxins), genetics, hormones, infections, and some medications may increase the chances of developing it. Lupus most commonly affects women between the ages of 15 and 45 years. Currently there is no cure, and treatment focuses on reducing symptoms and limiting damage to the organs.
