Magnesium

Day 7 of my holistic health advent calendar looks at magnesium.
Magnesium plays a part in the health of bones, muscles, blood and other soft tissue.
It is actually used in more than 600 reactions in the body, including converting food to energy, contraction and relaxation of the muscles, and quality of messages sent along the nervous system.
As well as our physical health, magnesium plays a role in our mental health. Magnesium has a significant role in brain function and mood, with low levels being linked to depression.
Magnesium also benefits people with type 2 diabetes. Low levels of magnesium can affect insulin’s effect on blood sugar levels.
A few studies have shown that low magnesium levels are linked with migraines, but magnesium can also help with painful chronic conditions.
Magnesium is found in some foods, including: avocado, spinach, pumpkin seeds, salmon, halibut, cashews, and almonds.
