3/7/2021 0 Comments Meniere's DiseaseMénière’s disease is a chronic inner ear condition which affects hearing and balance.
It mainly affects people in their 40s and 50s, but can still affect anyone at any age. Increased fluid in the inner ear causes increased pressure. Whilst the causes are not known exactly, factors such as ear infection, stress, alcohol, some medications, migraines, and family history are considered to be possible triggers. Symptoms of Ménière’s disease include muffled hearing, sudden dizzy spells than can cause someone to fall to the ground (vertigo), feeling of pressure in the ear, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Symptoms will vary from person to person, and attacks can last over several days, or just once in a while. Along with the difficulties Ménière's disease, it is common to experience other symptoms such as depression and anxiety. Hearing loss can affect relationships socially and at work, but the attacks can occur without warning, all contributing to low mood and fear. Reflexology, through pressure on specific points on the feet, helps to treat the symptoms of vertigo by restoring the energy flow in the body. Whilst I would not say that it can cure it, it can reduce the severity of symptoms and some people report reduced frequency of attacks. Treatment can be carried out in your home, so there is no pressure getting to my sanctuary. Treatments cost £40 and last approximately an hour.
