PMS affects approximately 75% of women due to an imbalance of hormones: too much oestrogen and not enough progesterone. It can strike at any time between 1 and 2 weeks before menstruation and symptoms vary. Reflexology is an amazing method of rebalancing hormones, thereby reducing the symptoms you experience. Research published in BioPsychoSocial Medicine in October 2019 showed that reflexology decreased physical and psychological symptoms of PMS. During your treatment session, I attend to all of the systems in the body including the nervous, lymphatic, digestive and reproductive systems. The pituitary gland, pineal gland and hypothalamus, which are located in the brain, are also important in helping to rebalance hormones within the body. Reflexology creates a deep state of relaxation, with many clients actually falling asleep, which helps the body heal itself. You may be on medication for PMS and concerned that reflexology will affect this, but reflexology is a complementary therapy, therefore it works with, not against, any treatment you are receiving. Advice regarding diet, fluids and other lifestyle choices can also be given, so that you get the best outcomes possible from your treatment. I have a nursing background including experience in gynaecology so I’m passionate about women’s health.
