14/8/2021 0 Comments Symptoms of HyperthyroidismEarlier in the week I did a piece on hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), but today I’m focusing on hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid produces too much thyroxine. This has the effect of speeding up metabolism and can cause some pretty uncomfortable symptoms. With an overactive thyroid you may develop a goitre which is a swelling at the base of the neck. Whilst hypothyroidism causes sensitivity to cold, hyperthyroidism causes sensitivity to heat. Other symptoms include mood swings, fatigue, nervousness, tremors, fast loss of weight without trying, increased bowel movements, thinning hair, poor sleep, and many more. Conventional treatment options include medication, radioactive iodine, or surgery. Reflexology opens the energy flow through the thyroid gland and can help rebalance both hypo- and hyperthyroidism.
