6/4/2022 0 Comments Upper Back PainThe next 12 bones after the cervical vertebrae (as discussed yesterday), are called the thoracic vertebrae.
The thoracic vertebrae support the rib cage and are important in helping to protect the heart and lungs. This part of the spine has very limited movement, but with ageing the vertebrae can become more curved, putting pressure on the lungs, heart and diaphragm. In reflexology, congestion in the thoracic spine can also affect the pancreas, spleen, small intestine, oesophagus, kidneys and liver. So the spinal reflex is important to ensure the nerves are able to send quality messages between these organs and the brain. As well as the bones and nerves, there are the muscles that help the lungs expand and contract. Reflexology can help to reduce inflammation which may result from chest infections, hayfever, coughing. You may experience discomfort in the muscles across the shoulder blades as a result of driving, working at a desk/computer for long periods of time. Reflexology can help to release tension and therefore discomfort in this area too. If you are experiencing discomfort in your back, give reflexology a try! You only need to take your socks and shoes off, particularly suitable if you feel self-conscious having a massage.
