Vitamin B12 is necessary for red blood cell and DNA production, as well as effective functioning of our nervous systems. It is found in meat and dairy products, as well as eggs. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 is most common amongst the elderly, but anyone is at risk if their diet does not contain enough. Vitamin B12 deficiency can also occur in people taking Metformin for diabetes, those taking long term antacid medication, vegan diet, and anyone who has had part of their bowel removed. Symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency include: pale/jaundiced skin, fatigue, pins and needles, altered balance and coordination, mouth ulcers, breathlessness, disturbed vision, low mood and memory problems.
