Vitamin C

Hello December - the last month of the year and a time to reflect back but also make plans for the start of a new year.
This December I will be doing my own version of an advent calendar!
Each day I will give you a natural health tip, especially how reflexology can help, but also other ideas to help get through the winter as healthily as possible.
Today’s top tip is VITAMIN C.
Vitamin C is found in many fruit and vegetables, although you may take it in the form of a supplement.
Vitamin C has many health benefits:
1. It is an antioxidant which boosts our immune systems. It helps to fight inflammation caused by infections, but can also help prevent chronic illness.
2. Helps to lower high blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels. This, in turn, helps to lower our risk of heart disease.
3. Helps to reduce risk of gout by lowering blood uric acid levels.
4. Helps prevent iron deficiency. Iron is important for making red blood cells and transporting oxygen around the body.
5. It boosts the immunity by encouraging the production of white blood cells which fight infection.
6. It helps protect your memory. Studies have shown that lower levels of vitamin C can increase the risk of dementia.
The recommended daily intake is 65-90 mg per day, although the upper limit is 2000 mg. Too much dietary intake is unlikely to cause any harm because the body cannot store it.
