What does the skin on your feet reveal about you?

Do have dry or cracked skin on your feet?  Do you have any corns or calluses?  Is your skin flaking off?  Do you get frequent fungal infections such as athlete’s foot?

Do you just put that down to poor shoes or sweaty feet?  Did you know that these all represent imbalances within the body?  Even where you have the hard skin or verruca will tell me a story about what is going on in your body or your emotional/professional life!  This may sound a bit freaky, but actually it can be a very enlightening experience and help you to address issues in your life, which are actually affecting your health.

Today I am looking at dry, hard or cracked skin on your feet and what this can mean.  If you experience prolonged dry cracked heels, together with a yellow tint to the skin in the same area, and general dry skin over the body and dry hair, you may have a thyroid imbalance.  If it is just over the heel area, this part of the foot represents the pelvic and lower back areas of the body.  The dry skin interpretation here is a physical interpretation.

However, an emotional or mental response may also be read by looking at the state of the skin on the feet, which I find very fascinating.

If you have hard skin, calluses, corns then it is possible that you are having to put a sense of protection.  It may be a more recent issue, if you have not had the hard skin for a long time, but it may also be a longer standing emotion that you are burying or trying to deal with. You may be ending a relationship, experienced a miscarriage, or you may be moving house or job.  Corns, in particular, represent protection from a specific issue.

If the skin on your feet just appears to be dry, rather than a deeper level of cracking, then this represents a need for more warmth, love and attention in your life.  If the skin is peeling off, then that represents needing a fresh start, or releasing an emotion, and rough skin means that you are going through a rough time.

We are all familiar with verrucas and athlete’s foot, may be we have experienced this personally, or we have a family member who has.  Did you even consider that even these have a potential emotional root?  Verrucas represent a very deep-seated issue, and where the verruca is found can give an insight into what the issue is.  It is common for verrucas in women to be found on the padded area at the bottom of the big toe.  This represents the thyroid and can be affected as a woman enters perimenopause.  Younger women may find a verruca on the padded heel area on the sole of the foot, which represents the pelvic area, therefore could be associated with endometriosis, PMS, fibroids, polycystic ovaries.  One word of caution I must add at this point, as a reflexologist I cannot diagnose.

Athlete’s foot may surprise you in what it can represent.  If you have ever experienced this condition, you may remember that there was a lot of itching and general sensation of irritation.  This is a physical manifestation that someone is causing you irritation, getting on your nerves, blocking your progress professionally, interfering unnecessarily, or making you doubt your own abilities.

So, take a few minutes to look at the condition of the skin on your feet and see if any of these apply to you.  You may be very surprised!!
