What is the difference between your left and right feet?

Apart from the obvious fact that they are attached to your left and right legs?!

Many of you will be aware that your body is mapped out on your feet, therefore corresponding organs of the body will be represented on your feet.  Therefore, your heart is represented on the left foot but the pancreas is on the right, your spleen is on your left foot but your spine is on both feet. Mind-boggling?

How about I add another dimension to this?  So, in the world of reflexology your right foot is considered to represent your professional life, whilst your left foot is your emotional state.  Take a look at your feet, can you see if one foot is bigger than the other?  If so, that suggests you are more confident in that side of yourself.  When I am carrying out reflexology on my clients, where I feel greater imbalance, or corresponding organs on the left foot, will tell me that they have more stress in their emotional life than their professional one.  Conversely, if there are more imbalances felt on their right foot, it would suggest that the source of stress relates to work or more practical issues.

Another theory is that the right foot represents the past and the left foot represents the present (even reflexologists cannot predict the future!!)  An example would be, particularly at this time of year, that if you have recently had a chest infection, the lung and respiratory tract reflexes on the left foot will feel imbalanced, but as recovery has completed it will be felt on the right.  This also relates back to emotional stress that is currently being experienced will be felt in the left foot, but if the stress or emotional trauma is from childhood or deep-set in the past, then it will be felt on the right foot.

Another theory is that the right foot is considered to be your “male” foot and the left is your “female” foot.  This was a concept that I found a little bit strange to understand at first, so needed to do a bit more research into it.  Bear with me, and hopefully I can give an example which will make it more clear.  You don’t need to start naming your feet as Rosie and Jim or any other male or female names (well you can if you want to!), it is more about male and female energy, and how we relate to men and women.  If there are imbalances in the right foot, it may relate to difficulties in a relationship with a man, or there is a lack of male input in your life.  If there are more imbalances on the left foot, it may relate to difficulties with a female friend/relation.  It may also relate to going through female hormone changes such as perimenopause, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, for example.

I have been doing a lot of reading about foot reading and visual reflexology.  I am finding it absolutely fascinating as it brings another dimension to reflexology.  Many of you who already have sessions with me, have probably realised I love to impart any knowledge!  Those that have not yet had a reflexology session with me are missing out!!

This week I am looking at various bits and pieces that I can see, and interpret, just by looking at your feet, even before I get my hands working on them.

Watch out for more in my series of what your feet are telling me, including what is the significance of bunions, cracked heels, verrucas, flat feet, and even the shape of your toes!!
