Winter Solstice

Today is the winter solstice, also known as midwinter and the shortest day.
Today is the start of the countdown to spring, with the days getting longer and the nights getting shorter.
The winter solstice has had long links with Christmas, in particular the 12-day pagan holiday of Yule.
Celtic druids observed the winter solstice by cutting mistletoe and the lighting of the “Yule log” to protect them from evil spirits.
Romans had a full week of partying from 17th December in honour of the god Saturn.
However you mark the winter solstice, I hope it brings you good health and a feeling of optimism that there are brighter days ahead.
