What is Reflexology?

To understand reflexology we first need to consider "what is health?" Our bodies are designed to work to particular standards and balances of all the different organs, systems, and hormones, working together. However, stress, toxins, poor diet, and infections, affect the delicate balance, and create illness and disease.

Reflexology is the application of a comfortable level of pressure on the feet or hands, to help the body rebalance itself. Specific areas on the feet and hands correspond to areas in the body via the nervous system. When pressure is applied to these areas it stimulates the movement of energy through nerve channels helping the body to rebalance itself.

The autonomic nervous system has two branches to it: sympathetic and parasympathetic. The sympathetic nervous system is involved in the body's fight or flight response. For the body to heal itself it needs to be in the parasympathetic phase, which is generally while we are sleeping.

Reflexology helps to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system creating a sense of deep relaxation. It can help with mental health conditions such as anxiety, where there is over-stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. It also helps with chronic and acute physical conditions.

There are many benefits to having reflexology, including:
  • Improved nerve function and sensitivity
  • Faster recovery from surgery or injuries
  • Improved circulation
  • Elimination of toxins
  • Deep relaxation
  • Improve pregnancy comfort
  • Reduces anxiety and depression
  • Improves sleep
  • Increases energy
  • Improves the immune system

The bonus to reflexology is that there are no side effects!

Who Am I?

I qualified as a registered nurse, from the Royal Free Hospital in London, in 1996. My nursing career has covered gynaecology, neonatal care, wide range of surgical procedures, and district nursing (gaining my specialist nurse qualifications in 2015). Prior to the pandemic I was providing nurse-led teaching at the menopause retreats, helping to empower women through peri-menopause and beyond. This gave me an increased interest in supporting women's health.

After having a course of treatment myself, and experiencing the amazing benefits during and afterwards, I decided to train as a reflexologist with the School of Natural Health Sciences. I qualified in 2019, when I gained my diploma with distinction. In the following year I gained my advanced diploma in reflexology, also with distinction.

My purpose is to provide a safe complementary therapy for chronic and acute conditions. I provide treatment in my own home, in a relaxing setting. You will be given a very warm welcome, and made to feel safe. You can be confident that you will receive individualised care, through my wide knowledge and understanding of chronic and acute conditions.

My history of nursing makes me caring, reliable, approachable, flexible and nurturing person, with a passion to make you feel relaxed, refreshed, focused, happier, calmer and healthier. But don't just take my word for it, take a look at my testimonials.

I am currently undergoing studies in additional holistic therapies including acupressure and aromatherapy massage... watch this space!
