3/6/2023 0 Comments Headaches/migraineI think we all agree that headaches can be incredibly disruptive, and migraines can completely incapacitate you. Medication can help to a point, but does not always take the pain away.
Headache and migraine may not always have an obvious trigger, but common triggers include dehydration, stress, poor sleep, and anxiety. Conventional medicine can be supported through the use of aromatherapy. The use of essential oils have been documented for thousands of years, and have been shown to be useful in relieving stress and pain. There is a complex relationship between scents and the brain, and the oils are used with care because strong scents could actually trigger headache and migraine. A qualified aromatherapist, like myself, are trained to dilute specific essential oils to calm the stress and reduce symptoms. Commonly used essential oils include: - Lavender which reduces stress and anxiety. A few drops can be put into boiling water and steam inhaled for around 15 minutes. - Peppermint helps relax muscles. Tension in the neck and shoulders can cause headaches. Menthol in the mint also numbs pain triggered in the nervous system. - Rosemary helps reduce anxiety. It improves circulation which can help remove toxins and supply nutrients and oxygen, thereby reducing symptoms. As well as inhaling the essential oils, you may experience benefit from a neck/back/shoulders massage using the essential oils. Massage helps to reduce tension in the muscles which can cause headaches.
