3/6/2023 0 Comments InsomniaWe all go through periods of difficulty sleeping for so many reasons (stress, anxiety, pain, perimenopause etc) but, apart from feeling tired, it can have longer-term effects on our health.
Prolonged insomnia affects our immunity, raises blood pressure and heart rate, alters our bowel pattern, increases anxiety and depression. Our bodies will usually rebalance and rejuvenate during sleep, so if that is not happening our bodies and minds suffer. Aromatherapy can be very useful through inhalation of therapeutic essential oils, as well as the effect of massage releasing tension from the body. Most of us think of lavender and chamomile if we have trouble sleeping but other oils such as ylang ylang, peppermint, bergamot, sandalwood, clary sage, marjoram, vet over and cedar wood are helpful, depending on the cause of insomnia.
